Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.
~ Alex Haley
Our daughter has been spending a lot of time with us this summer.
With a second child on the way, she and her husband bought a more suitable home in a family-friendly neighbourhood and will be moving at the end of August.
To facilitate the move, and because the three-day-a-week caregiver has been on a two-week holiday, we are looking after our granddaughter in our home. She is a very busy 15-month-old.
Barely out of bed in the morning, she pleads to be taken outside. She is learning to navigate some very challenging terrain. She wants to run, climb, swim, swing, kayak and chase dogs. It is no small task to keep her safe. She is so fast.
To fuel her activity, she eats voraciously. Fortunately, she loves all food. When I am not cooking in the kitchen (and my husband is not around to help), I am chasing her, pulling her around the house on a towel, building block towers, reading to her, rocking her to sleep, and cleaning up the messes.
It is hard to find time to write, but we are busy creating beautiful memories.
