The information that you consume on a daily basis is the soil from which your future thoughts are grown.
~ James Clear
Our son closed his last video with the inspirational quote above. It resonated with me.
The media we consume on a daily basis helps shape who we are. Our thoughts become our reality, unless we question them.
To keep us watching, reading and listening, algorithms will learn our preferences and present content that perpetuates our way of thinking.
We are under the influence of those who want to shape what we consume, including food, drink, medicine, entertainment, political leanings etc.
Small mindedness perpetuates an “us” versus “them” mentality and impairs our personal and collective growth and transformation.
Choose higher quality products
It was after I first began to uplift my thoughts a bit that my cravings for junk food started to dissipate. I did not connect the two at that time. First, I simply noticed that I didn’t need to sleep so much. It took a while before I realized that in addition to my improved energy level, there was a direct correlation between chewing on mental garbage and putting garbage in my mouth.

Mothers are intuitively driven to nourish offspring optimally. I applaud our daughter and son-in-law's effort to cut out poor quality personal care and cleaning products. They also avoid highly processed foods and drinks that include:
Refined oils and fats that are bleached, deodorized, de-gummed, extracted using high heat and hexane
Pulverized herbicide and pesticide laced grains and legumes reconstituted into pasta and baked goods
Factory meat with glues, antibiotics and hormones
Lab-made artificial sweeteners (aka non-nutritive sweeteners) like sucralose (Splenda), advantame, aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal), acesulfame (Sweet One), neotame, saccharin (Sweet'N Low) and cyclamate
Colours and preservatives
Through the use of an independently funded App called Yuka the process is simplified.
When buying packaged products simply scan the QR code and a well researched rating will be presented. If the rating is poor due to hazardous chemicals, we toss it or refuse to buy it. (Special thank you to my friend Koula for sharing this valuable resource.)
Over the holidays, it was interesting to hear a man who had previously been reluctant to buy organic foods, state that after seeing research that highlights how herbicides and pesticides lower testosterone levels, even if organic foods “are not nutritionally superior", he now buys them.

Closing thoughts
Be the change you wish to see in the world.
~ Mahatma Gandhi
By making more informed decisions on what we consume we can be the change we want to see in the world. A change in demand, changes supply over time.
In 2024, let us commit to making more informed decisions about what we consume. No more chewing on mental garbage or putting garbage in our mouth or body.
Happy 2024 to you and your families. Wishing you all lots of health, happiness and prosperity.
