Your beliefs and thoughts are wired into your biology. They become your cells, tissues, and organs. There’s no supplement, no diet, no medicine, and no exercise regimen that can compare with the power of your thoughts and beliefs. That’s the very first place you need to look when anything goes wrong with your body.
~ Christiane Northrup, MD
Food is medicine, but even the best dietary and lifestyle habits do not compare to the power of thought in healing.
The power of thought is a recurring theme in my blog. Repetition is a crucial element in the learning process, enhancing retention.
Our thoughts and beliefs trigger words, feelings, and actions that alter our health and function.
Take, for example, the belief that "nobody likes me”. It makes us feel “bad”, activating a part of the brain that acts as a filter, modulating the flow of sensory information, facilitating the brain to focus on what we are looking for, and ignoring any experience that contradicts our belief.
Feeling "bad", we act in a way that repels kindness from others, or, in the least, we are less likely to notice kind deeds.
We attract people who treat us poorly because we feel unworthy.
We interpret people’s actions as confirmation that we are not likeable, even if their behaviour has nothing to do with us.
Unless this self-limiting belief is replaced with a more positive perspective, over time, our mental and physical health becomes impaired.
An end-of-day practice of writing down what we are grateful for primes the brain to focus and witness the good.
Closing thoughts
The mind is everything. What you think you become.
~ Buddha
When we blame external circumstances for our suffering, we are victims.
Embracing self-help, or looking for the “silver lining” in what afflicts us, is a step in our quest to reach our full potential.
The magic happens when we understand that there is a purpose in all we experience.
We awaken to our true greatness when we understand that challenges serve us and recognize that we played a role in creating or attracting them.
With more positive thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours, we radiate energy that elevates everyone.
