The universe has my back

When we surrender our will to the power of the Universe, we receive miracles.

~ Gabrielle Bernstein

On Tuesday, when the weather seemed cooperative, I went grocery shopping.

Over the last two winters, my car, a Mini, has sat idle most of the time. It has snow tires, but it is not the safest vehicle for remote cottage roads, especially in inclement weather. So, I stay put.

Twice last year, I ended up in the ditch. The first time, after I failed to dig the car out, a couple of tradespeople who happened to drive by helped me out.

The next time it took me 45 minutes to dig myself out. I was exhausted but felt elated when I succeeded. What a great workout!

Every challenge creates an opportunity for growth.

Last week when I was out, I got a warning that the windshield wiper fluid was low. I forgot about it until the signal came on again as I drove off. It was a beautiful morning. Against my better judgment, I decided I’d refill it when I got to my destination.

The Mini has served me well since 2013. I love that car and have taken pride in maintaining it. I call it Archie, short for Archangel Michael, whom I trust to keep me safe.

I was on the highway when unexpectedly blustery snow and debris started to impair my visibility. I used the windshield wipers with fluid sparingly, yet, it ran out. I decided I would exit at the first opportunity.

Approaching the exit, I lost complete visibility. It was terrifying.

Fear can be crippling but warranted when you’re putting yourself and others at risk. I swiped the wipers once and I prayed.

Miraculously the windshield cleared. I experienced clarity of vision. I counted my blessings. Yet again, the universe had my back.

I exited, bought the wiper fluid and filled the reservoir. Lesson learned. I’ll never drive with low windshield wiper fluid again.

Thank you, Universe, for helping me see this obstacle as an opportunity. I will step back and let you lead the way.

The Mini is not the right vehicle for me in my new home. We have ordered a new car.

To be a competent driver, buy the right vehicle for your circumstances.

It is critical to learn to drive safely in any terrain. Of course, it’s safer to minimize travel in inclement weather.

Overcome the fear. Maintain your car and practice driving under adverse conditions. Some day you may have to.

Be thankful for each new challenge. It will build your strength and character.
