That which is used - develops. That which is not used wastes away.
~ Hippocrates
Comparable to a lack of gravity, without some manageable stress we start to degenerate.
Holding oneself accountable with deadlines when others don't will help maintain or create resilience.
I have challenged myself to post a weekly blog. Not only does it facilitate continued learning but it is my way to keep in touch with friends and colleagues.
Technical difficulties
~ Robert H. Schuller
Last week, technical difficulties threatened to impair my delivery.
On Monday morning, I placed boiling water into a jar-type drinking glass, assuming it was heat-safe. The glass exploded, splashing a little water onto the keyboard of my laptop.
I immediately powered off the computer, wiped it, and flipped it upside down to dry, placing some silica gel packs beneath the keyboard to absorb moisture.
The quick search on my cell phone suggested I keep the computer off for 48 hours. The closest repair shop is a hundred kilometres away.
The following morning, I had an urgent and unexpected call for help that took me away for 36 hours.
Thursday morning, when I turned on the computer, all seemed well.
But soon I realized the battery was draining even with the laptop plugged in. I checked the functionality of the plug, the charger, and the USB port.
The port was the problem. The fact that I had not backed up the computer troubled me.
I have nothing on the cloud. I store everything on my hard drive.
I started the backup, but it was draining too much power.
Computer backups are not free and occasionally impossible when the computer breaks down.
No excuses. Holding myself accountable
Enthusiasm is common. Endurance is rare.
~ Angela Duckworth
I borrowed two different computers to create and post my blog last week. Unfortunately, one had no word processing software.
I usually write on Pages or Word, edit, then post on WIX. For reasons I will not bore you with, this became very cumbersome.
Maybe it's time to become more comfortable with Google Docs!
Friday morning, I delivered a raw, unedited blog. I have since taken the time to edit it.
I recognize perfection is overrated, but these blogs are a compilation of my thought processes. I take pride in clarifying them. Feel free to revisit The Drive to make a difference.
The laptop will not be repaired. I have lost over a year of content. But, this is but a mere inconvenience.
I learned valuable lessons. I made no excuses. I took 100% responsibility and the challenge presented an opportunity for growth.
Having "an attitude of gratitude" for the tech challenge and persevering to meet my deadline served me well.
